As I think about my desire to do integrative ministry as a part of my call, it is suggested that I practice this in reality. So here’s the idea:
- A quick vespers followed by dinner at the Bar/smoke shop down the street.
- Evening Prayer/vespers with discussion on a current event (wine and cheese)
- A group made dinner with evening prayer and discussion.
I can’t decide what I want to do. I have followed the Vesper outline and re-written it to include readings that are more secular and prayers. But I am not sure if that is the right path. There is something saying that the eating and talking over the meal is the most important piece.
Maybe its a little pray, pray at the beginning either on Wed., Thurs., or Friday evenings followed by a fellowship time that has non-alcoholic options, as well as wine/beer, and mostly community discussion time. All this to say, are there folks out there doing these kinds of 20’s-30’s groups in cosmopolitan areas? Do you have any best practices to share? I started a 20-30’s group in Burlington that was pretty successful and growing, but we didn’t do any on-going activities, more once a month. So I am trying to gage how best to move forward with this. Also, I think that it would be nice to have people participate that aren’t just young professionals, cross-generational, class, race, gender, etc… gathering is always a far more interesting experience. The questions is how to appeal to this vast group. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
